American Corner at the Saare County Central Library in Kuressaare was opened on April 13th in 2005.
American Corners are partnerships between the Public Affairs sections of U.S. Embassies and host institutions. There are over 400 American Corners all over the world.
We provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book collections, the Internet, and through a variety of events such as films, speaker programs, workshops, meetings and exhibits. An American Corner serves as an information outpost similar to a public library reference service. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are all open and accessible.
By now we have a collection of approximately 1000 new reference, fiction, and non-fiction books. Every year we order about 10 subscriptions to U.S. periodicals and we have a nice collection of DVD’s about U.S. culture, nature and history.
You can lend our English books which are located in the American Corner when you are a registered user of our library.
